August 24, 2019- Former Yankees Former Yankees Reliever Tex Clevenger (1961-1962) passed away. (1932-2019)

Veteran MLB reliever Tex Clevenger appeared out of the 1961-1962 New York Yankees bullpen in 42 games, while going 3-1, posting a 3.75 ERA with no saves. On May 8,1961, Tex was traded by the new expansion Angels along with veteran OF Bob Cerv to the Yankees for Rookie OF Lee Thomas, Pitchers Ryne Duren and Johnny James.

In 1953, the Boston Red Sox originally had signed Tex as an MLB Amateur Free Agent. He had been a Star Pitcher for Fresno State College. Later, he pitched for the 1956-1960 Washington Senators. In the 1960 AL Expansion Team Player Draft, the Angels selected him from the original Washington Senators. With the Angels, he had appeared as a Reliever in 12 games, while posting a 2-1 record. With their bullpen already having veteran relievers Art Fowler and Tom Morgan. Tex was made available for a trade. He went 1-1 with no saves in 21 games for the 1961 Yankees. Tex didn’t make any World Series appearances with the 1961-1962 Yankees. He spent 1963 season with the AAA Richmond Virginians (IL), while posting a 4-9 record in 47 games. He retired from pro baseball at the end of the 1963 MLB season. In 8 MLB seasons, Tex posted a 36-37 record with 4.18 ERA in 307 games. As an MLB reliever, Tex was 19-15 with 30 saves.
